New Home starts weaker

TORONTO, JANUARY 9, 2008 – Preliminary figures released today by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) show new home starts were weaker in 2007. A total of 1,149 new homes were started in the St. Catharines-Niagara CMA, down 11 per cent from the 2006 level and below the 10 year average of 1,366 units. Single-detached home starts decreased by nine per cent while multiple family home starts dropped by 17 per cent. New residential construction was down in most municipalities, with the exception of Niagara Falls, Fort-Erie and Pelham.

Resale Market will be strong but construction will retreat.
